David Ramirez, “We’re Not Going Anywhere” (Sweetworld). From the opening line of the first song — “Where were you when we lost the twins” — it’s clear that indie singer-songwriter Ramirez has some issues weighing heavy on his mind on his fourth album. Recorded in Maine with Sam Kassirer, a longtime fixture in Josh Ritter’s band, “We’re Not Going Anywhere” furthers Ramirez’s reputation for deeply affecting and emotionally charged songcraft. He’s good at marrying musical atmospherics and textures to his subject matter, which ranges from the personal to the political and the places those points intersect. Especially poignant is “Stone Age,” which finds him asking a loved one, “Well honey do you mind if I move in with you, while my fellow patriots work out Civil War Two?” In-store Sept. 8 at Waterloo Records. These Fine Moments, “Break It, Bought It.” On their fifth release, Robert Watts and Hilary Kaufmann again team up with producer Mark Hallman (Carole King, Ani DiFranco) for 10 tracks of immediately appealing pop music. Watson and Kaufmann are one of the better harmony vocal duos in town, and they benefit from the contributions of a few ace local players, including guitarists Andre Moran and Stephen Doster. All songs are their own save for “She Goes Out,” a standout Hallman composition. Release show Sept. 10 at One-2-One Bar. Here’s the video for the title track:

Mystery Achievement, self-titled. The first full-length release from this rock ’n’ roll quartet fronted by guitarist Sheridan Roalson (Disappearing Twins, Screaming in Spanish) aand bassist Mallory Whitenton was produced by Chris “Frenchie” Smith and follows a four-song 2014 EP. Release show Sept. 9 at ABGB.
